The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Advanced Manufacturing at Flinders University provides a structured, progressive curriculum designed to build both foundational knowledge and advanced skills over three years of study before students move into specialised areas. In the first year, the focus is on solidifying essential engineering fundamentals. Students develop strong skills in mathematics, design, and programming, forming the technical backbone required for advanced study. Alongside this, they are introduced to cyber-physical systems, robotics, and automation, giving them early exposure to the technologies that define modern manufacturing and Industry 4.0 environments. This combination of foundational and applied learning ensures students are well-prepared for the challenges ahead. In the second year, students extend their understanding of core concepts in physics and mathematics while exploring more specialised topics in networks, cybersecurity, and innovative engineering solutions. This year builds on the first-year foundation by integrating theory with practical applications, enabling students to design, analyse, and optimise complex systems. The emphasis on emerging technologies and innovations equips students with the skills needed to navigate and contribute to rapidly evolving industrial environments, preparing them for specialised work in advanced manufacturing sectors. The third year emphasizes professional and project management skills while allowing students to choose a specialised stream aligned with their interests and career goals. Students learn how to plan, manage, and execute engineering projects effectively, gaining essential experience in teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making. This year also provides the opportunity to decide on their advanced manufacturing major, whether it be in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Robotics Engineering. By the end of the third year, students have acquired the technical expertise, practical experience, and professional skills necessary to succeed in their chosen specialisation and to contribute meaningfully to the future of advanced manufacturing and industry.
