Course Curriculum

In the first and second semesters of the General Entry pathway to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Flinders University, students are introduced to a combination of foundation and standard engineering topics that ensure they are well-prepared for advanced study. Depending on their academic background, some students may be required to take additional topics in mathematics and physics to strengthen their core knowledge and bridge any gaps in their prior learning. Alongside this, they engage with a range of essential engineering subjects that establish a strong technical base. These include studies in electronics, which provide insight into the design and functioning of circuits and devices; engineering design, where creativity and problem-solving are emphasized; professional skills, which focus on communication, teamwork, and ethics; engineering programming, which equips students with computational tools for problem-solving; engineering physics and materials, which explore fundamental scientific principles and material properties; as well as engineering mechanics and further mathematical studies to build analytical and technical proficiency. This combination of learning ensures that students develop both the theoretical understanding and practical skills required for engineering.By the third semester, students transition into more specialized topics that allow them to complete the equivalent of the first year of a standard Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program. This progression ensures that they are aligned with the curriculum and academic expectations of their peers in the traditional entry pathway. Upon completing the third semester, students are eligible to transfer into the second year of any of the named Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degrees at Flinders University. This structure provides a clear, well-supported route into engineering, giving students the flexibility to explore their interests during the early stages while ensuring they meet the academic standards necessary for success in their chosen discipline.
