The Bachelor of Computational Intelligence at Flinders University is designed to equip students with the skills to create intelligent systems, solve complex problems, and thrive in a rapidly evolving technology landscape. The degree combines theoretical learning with hands-on experience, preparing graduates for careers across computing and other industries that increasingly rely on intelligent systems. In the first year, students are introduced to core computational intelligence topics, including neural networks and language technology, alongside an introduction to computer programming. Foundational subjects in robotics, networking, mathematics/statistics, and professional skills provide a broad understanding of computational systems and prepare students for more specialised study. The second year builds on this foundation, with intermediate programming and core topics in computer mathematics, computer networks, and web development. Students also select subjects to develop skills in areas such as language, neuroscience, or robotics, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. In the third year, students engage with complex programming and advanced topics in computation, intelligent systems, and databases. Additional subjects focus on multimodal computing, games, simulation, and robotics. A key feature of this year is a 12-week work experience placement or group project, where students build an intelligent system while developing project management skills, gaining invaluable practical experience. For those pursuing honours, the program offers an in-depth investigation of a chosen area through a major research project, supported by a selection of advanced topics in research methods, computer science, information technology, and software engineering. This prepares graduates for research roles, specialised technical positions, or further postgraduate study.Graduates of the Bachelor of Computational Intelligence are well-prepared for a wide range of employment opportunities, including public and private agencies, start-up companies, and consultancies. Career pathways extend beyond traditional computing roles into sectors such as intelligent transport and logistics, buildings and infrastructure, healthcare, aerospace, and defence. With a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and practical experience, graduates leave ready to innovate, lead, and make a tangible impact in diverse industries where intelligent systems are shaping the future.
