Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Arts and Sciences at Flinders University is structured to provide students with a well-rounded education that develops knowledge across both arts and science disciplines while building essential academic and professional skills. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of their chosen majors by studying introductory topics in both arts and science. These are complemented by core topics in academic and professional communication and academic and professional numeracy, which ensure students gain the critical skills needed to succeed in a wide range of disciplines. Elective topics are also available, giving students the flexibility to explore additional areas of interest and broaden their learning experience. In the second year, the program builds on these foundations by moving into more advanced intermediate topics that contribute to both the arts and science majors. Students also continue to personalise their studies by selecting elective topics that allow them to expand their expertise or explore interdisciplinary links between their chosen fields. By the third year, the degree shifts towards consolidation and integration of learning. Students complete a capstone topic designed to bring together their knowledge from both arts and science, highlighting the connections and applications between the two domains. They also undertake more advanced topics in both their arts and science majors, ensuring they graduate with depth of knowledge in their chosen areas of study as well as the ability to integrate and apply insights from across disciplines. This progression from introductory to advanced study ensures students not only gain a strong foundation in their majors but also develop transferable skills in research, problem-solving, and communication. The structure of the program allows students to graduate as adaptable, multidisciplinary thinkers prepared for a wide range of professional pathways or further study.
