The Master of Mechanical Engineering is a two-year program that provides advanced theoretical knowledge and practical training in key areas of mechanical engineering. In the first year, students begin with core topics such as Solid Mechanics, Vibration Engineering, and Computer Aided Manufacturing. These units build a strong foundation in understanding the behavior of mechanical systems, analyzing vibrations in machinery, and using computer-based tools in manufacturing processes. In the second semester, the focus shifts to Thermodynamics, Advanced Robotics, and Advanced Control System Engineering, allowing students to explore energy systems, automation, and control theory in greater depth. A Co-operative Placement in the summer semester offers students real-world engineering experience, where they apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting, enhancing their practical skills and industry readiness. In the second year, the curriculum becomes more research and project focused. Semester one includes Modelling and Simulation in Engineering, which teaches students how to predict system behavior through computational tools, along with Advanced Machine Design, which emphasizes innovative approaches to solving complex mechanical design challenges. Students also begin their capstone work through the Advanced Engineering Design Project and the first phase of the Advanced Engineering Research Project. In the final semester, students explore Energy Conversion and Advanced Vibration Engineering while completing the second phase of their research project. These units bring together all aspects of the program, integrating theory, experimentation, and real-world application. By the end of the course, students are well-prepared for careers in mechanical design, automation, energy systems, and engineering research. Graduates are eligible for Engineers Australia membership and can pursue roles in consulting, manufacturing, infrastructure, or government sectors, both in Australia and globally. The strong emphasis on research, industry placement, and modern engineering tools ensures graduates are ready for leadership roles and continued academic or professional advancement.
