The Graduate Diploma in Mining is structured over two years with a range of subjects designed to equip students with essential technical skills and industry knowledge. In Year 1, Semester 1, students study four core units: Computational Skills for Engineers (ENGRG1001), Mine Power and Services Technology (ENGIN2501), Subsurface Environmental Engineering (ENGIN3502), and Applied Mathematics 1 (MATHS1100), each worth 15 credit points. These units focus on foundational engineering skills, environmental considerations, and mathematical techniques critical for mining applications. Semester 2 continues with Rock Mechanics Applications (ENGIN2503), Surface Mining Operations and Equipment (ENGIN3503), Applied Mathematics 2 (MATHS2100), and Planet Earth (SCGEO1103), building on geological knowledge, mining operations, and advanced math concepts. In Year 2, Semester 1 offers specialized subjects such as Mine Planning and Scheduling (ENGIN5505), Underground Production Systems (ENGIN5512), Mine Surveying (ENGIN5511) during the winter semester, and Production Drilling and Blasting (ENGIN5514), emphasizing operational planning, underground processes, surveying techniques, and blasting practices. Semester 2 focuses on Mine Safety and Environmental Engineering (ENGIN5501), Tunnelling and Mine Development (ENGIN5515), Company Economics and Finance (ENGIN5510), and Materials Handling and Hoisting (ENGIN5513) offered in the spring and summer semesters, addressing critical safety, infrastructure development, financial management, and material transport.
