The Bachelor of Science course is structured over three years and begins with a broad foundation in science, gradually incorporating specialization, professional development, and hands-on experience. In Year 1, Semester 1, students study Principles of Biology (15 credit points), Chemistry 1 (15 credit points), and Scientific Communication (15 credit points), along with an introductory major subject. In Semester 2, they continue with Scientific Practice and Professional Identity (Science), each worth 15 credit points, while also beginning to develop their chosen major and minor study areas. This first year focuses on core scientific concepts and essential academic skills, ensuring a well-rounded start to the degree. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge in their selected major and minor disciplines during Semester 1 and have the flexibility to explore additional interests through elective units. Semester 2 introduces students to real-world experience with Co-operative Placement 1 (Science), a 30-credit-point unit that involves practical work in a professional setting. Students continue progressing in both their major and minor studies alongside this placement. Year 3 builds on this with a second extended work placement in Semester 1, Co-operative Placement 2 (Science), also worth 30 credit points. This placement allows students to further develop their professional skills and industry connections. The remainder of Year 3 focuses on finalizing major requirements and taking additional electives to complement their chosen field. Semester 2 includes continued study in the major, one elective, and the opportunity to explore two additional elective areas. Overall, the program blends academic depth in science with a strong emphasis on professional readiness through structured co-operative placements and diverse study options, preparing graduates for a wide range of science-based careers or further study.
