The Master of Cyber Security is a two-year, 240 credit point coursework degree designed to provide students with the technical and strategic skills required to work in cyber security roles across government, law enforcement, and industry. The program is suitable for both experienced IT professionals looking to specialise and those new to the field seeking to build a cyber security career from the ground up. In Year 1, Semester 1, students begin with core technical foundations through units such as Cyber Security, Computer Networks and Security, and Scripting Languages. These units introduce key concepts such as secure network design, threat detection, and automation—forming the technical base for more advanced topics. In Semester 2, students expand their expertise with Cyber Security Management, Ethical Hacking and Defence, and Digital Forensics. These units focus on leadership in security environments, ethical penetration testing, and forensic investigation techniques. In Year 2, Semester 1, students study advanced topics including Threat Analysis, Mitigation and Response, Principles of Project Management, and Cloud Identity and Access Control. These units prepare students to respond to sophisticated cyber threats, manage IT security projects, and protect cloud-based systems through identity governance and access control measures. In the final semester, students undertake a major capstone experience. Depending on their eligibility and preferences, students either complete the Applied Project, a 60-credit-point unit involving the design and implementation of a practical cyber solution, or the Professional Placement (Computing and Security), which offers industry-based work experience in a cyber security setting. The program’s structure ensures a balance between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, with strong emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking, and ethical practice. Graduates will be well-prepared to take on roles such as security analyst, incident responder, penetration tester, or cyber risk advisor across a wide range of sectors.
