The Master of Computer Science is a two-year program designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in modern computing. The course consists of 240 credit points, delivered through 12 units across four semesters. In Year 1, Semester 1, students begin with core technical foundations by studying Networking Technologies, Systems Analysis and Database Design, and Programming Principles. These units introduce the essential components of computer networks, system design, and programming, establishing a strong base for further study. Semester 2 builds on this knowledge with Cyber Security, Scripting Languages, and Artificial Intelligence. These units focus on the application of secure computing practices, automation through scripting, and the basics of AI, ensuring students are equipped to work with contemporary tools and technologies used in industry. In Year 2, Semester 1, the course shifts towards more advanced topics and project readiness. Students undertake Principles of Project Management, which introduces planning and leadership in technical projects, along with Machine Learning and Current Topics in Computer Science. These units allow students to engage with cutting-edge research and technologies while learning how to manage and implement real-world computing solutions. In the final semester, students complete a major practical component, choosing between two capstone options depending on eligibility. Students approved for the Work Integrated Learning pathway undertake the 60-credit-point unit Professional Placement (Computing and Security), gaining valuable industry experience. Those not in the placement program complete the Applied Project unit, which also carries 60 credit points and requires students to solve a real-world problem using the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course. This structure ensures students graduate with deep technical skills, hands-on experience, and a strong understanding of current and emerging trends in computer science, making them well-prepared for careers in software development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and other IT-related fields.
