The Diploma of Hotel Management is a two-year program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the hospitality and tourism industries. In the first year, students complete eight units over two or three trimesters, which include five core subjects such as communication skills, introductory computing, mathematics, workplace communication, and project management. These core units aim to develop essential academic and employability skills, supporting scaffolded learning and preparing students for more advanced studies. Alongside the core units, students select three electives to broaden their knowledge and tailor their learning experience. Successful completion of the first year allows students to progress into the second year of the diploma. In the second year, students continue with eight units over two or three trimesters, focusing on more specialized topics relevant to hotel management. These units include work and career skills, professional communication, food and beverage management, marketing principles, service experience management, introduction to hospitality and tourism, and business environments and markets. The curriculum emphasizes practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills, preparing students to take on roles within commercial hospitality enterprises. Students also have the option to choose one elective to further customize their studies based on personal interests or career goals.Graduates who complete the second year of the Diploma of Hotel Management with satisfactory results are eligible for advanced standing in related bachelor’s degree programs at Edith Cowan University, receiving credit for up to eight units, equivalent to the first year of a bachelor’s degree. This pathway provides a smooth transition from diploma studies to university education, enhancing students’ academic progression and career prospects. Overall, the diploma equips students with foundational business skills and specialized hospitality knowledge, enabling them to succeed in a dynamic and competitive industry.
