The screen storytelling course requires students to complete 240 credit points of core units and 120 credit points of electives. Students may choose electives from recommended lists or combine majors and minors across the School of Arts and Humanities or other university schools. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge with units like Introduction to Screen Practice, Screen Evolution, Post-production Style and Techniques, and Writing Drama, alongside elective options. Year 2 deepens practical skills through larger projects such as Screen Practice: Documentary, Screenwriting, and collaborative screen practice, complemented by electives. Year 3 emphasizes industry engagement and creative production with units like Contemporary Screen Audiences, Production House: Industry Projects, and a major creative screen project, plus elective choices. The course encourages specialization through elective sequences such as Photography, which includes Camera Work and Lighting, Film Photography, and Visual Storytelling, or Broadcast and Journalism with units like Fundamentals of Journalism and Media Law and Ethics. Additional general recommended electives cover diverse areas from Indigenous Sci-fi and Futurisms to Stage Combat and Digital Performance. Opportunities for professional experience are also built into the program through internships and professional placements. This structure ensures students gain a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience, preparing them to become innovative storytellers who can create impactful screen content. The flexibility of electives and sequences allows students to tailor their learning to their interests, fostering creative growth and professional readiness in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
