The Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Systems is structured to provide a comprehensive and progressive learning experience across four years. Students are required to complete 30 core units, 2 elective units, and a practicum unit. The first year lays a strong foundation in general engineering principles with units such as Introduction to Engineering, Mathematics 1 and 2, Engineering Mechanics, and Electrical Engineering Fundamentals. It also includes Engineering Drawing and CAD, and an introduction to materials, energy, and resources. In the second year, students begin to specialize with subjects like Digital and Analog Electronics, Engineering Innovation and Ethics, Signals and Systems, Instrumentation, and Programming Fundamentals, along with a technical elective. Year three deepens specialization with advanced units including Electrical Networks, Communication Systems 1, Control Systems, Data Communications, Microprocessor Systems, Wireless Communication, Electrical Engineering Design, and Digital Signal Processing. Students maintaining a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70% or above by the end of year three are eligible to pursue a graded Honours pathway by completing a two-part thesis in their final year, replacing standard project units. The fourth year integrates practical and advanced topics such as Engineering Practicum, Propagation and Antennas, Power Electronics, Communication Systems 2, and Telecommunication Networks. Depending on the Honours pathway, students complete either a major project or the two-part Honours Thesis. The final semester includes Engineering Management and a second elective. Recommended electives allow students to explore specialized areas like Real-Time Embedded Systems, Robotics, Power Systems, Process Control, Renewable Energy, and more. This course structure ensures that students develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for complex roles in the electronics and communication industries.
