The Electrical Power Engineering course requires students to complete 30 core units, 2 electives, and a practicum unit over four years. In the first year, students build a solid foundation with subjects such as Introduction to Engineering, Materials and Manufacturing, Engineering Drawing and CAD, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Electrical Engineering Fundamentals, and Energy and Resource Engineering. The second year advances to more specialized topics including Instrumentation and Measurement, Digital Electronics, Electrical Networks, Thermodynamics, Programming Fundamentals, Signals and Systems, and Analog Electronics. In the third year, students study Power Electronics, Control Systems, Electrical Machines and Transformers, Power Systems, Data Communications, and Ethics in Engineering. The fourth year offers advanced courses like Power Systems 2, Communication Systems, Sustainability and Renewable Energy, Engineering Management, and the Engineering Practicum. Students who achieve a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70% or higher by the end of the third year may opt for a graded Honours pathway, replacing project units with Honours Thesis units. Recommended electives cover topics such as Microprocessor Systems, Wireless Communication, Robotics, Renewable Energy Conversions, and Real-Time Embedded Systems. This structure equips graduates with a comprehensive understanding of electrical power generation, transmission, and control, along with practical skills and leadership abilities for complex engineering projects in the power sector.
