Course Curriculum

The Diploma of Commerce at Deakin College is structured to provide students with a solid foundation in key areas of business and commerce, ensuring a smooth transition into the second year of a related bachelor degree at Deakin University. To successfully complete the diploma, students must pass eight core units, each worth one credit point, along with one compulsory zero-credit-point module. From Trimester 3, 2024, some international students will also be required to complete an additional zero-credit-point module designed to support language development.The core units cover essential topics across various business disciplines. These include Accounting for Decision Making (MAA103), Money, Growth and the Economy (MAE120), Fundamentals of Finance (MAF101), and Business Analytics (MIS171), providing strong analytical and financial literacy skills. Students also study Law for Commerce (MLC101), Marketing Fundamentals (MMK101), and Management (MMM132), which introduce them to the legal, promotional, and organisational aspects of business. Additionally, Managing Information in the Digital Age (MIS203) helps students understand how digital systems and information technology influence business operations in today’s digital economy.All students are required to complete the Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin module (DAI001), which reinforces ethical academic practices and responsible learning. International students beginning in or after Trimester 3, 2024, may also need to complete the Language Development Module (LDM100), aimed at strengthening academic English and communication skills.This well-rounded course structure ensures students are prepared for further university study and future employment. It builds the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in commerce-related degrees and careers, including areas such as accounting, finance, marketing, management, and business law. The diploma serves as a valuable entry point for students aiming to build a successful career in both the private and public sectors.
