Course Curriculum

To complete the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) at Deakin, students must pass 32 credit points. This includes three compulsory zero-credit units: Academic Integrity and Respect, Safety Induction Program, and Career Tools for Employability, all completed early in the course. The core of the degree consists of 22 credit points of core units that provide essential knowledge and skills in software engineering. Students also complete 2 credit points of software engineering capstone units and 4 credit points of software engineering research training capstone units, which focus on applying knowledge to real-world projects and research. Additionally, students choose 4 credit points that can either form a minor or consist of open elective units, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests. The program restricts students to a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and requires at least 10 credit points at level 3 or above to ensure advanced learning. Most units are worth one credit point each. As a full-time student, the typical load is four credit points per trimester, usually studying across two trimesters each year. This structure balances foundational learning with practical and research experience, preparing graduates for careers in developing innovative software and smart systems.
