To complete the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) at Deakin University, students must successfully complete 8 credit points. This includes 8 credit points of core units, with 4 credit points dedicated to an independent research project. In addition, all students must complete DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, a compulsory 0-credit-point unit in their first study period. The course is typically completed over two semesters, with full-time students enrolling in four credit points per semester. The structure is designed to develop advanced research knowledge and skills relevant to nursing practice. In the first semester, students undertake HBS400 Research Methods and HNR412 Research Planning in Nursing. These units provide the foundation for understanding research principles, methodologies, and planning processes within a healthcare context. In the second semester, students complete HNR410 Research Project 1 and HNR411 Research Project 2, where they undertake an independent research project that culminates in a written thesis. This research project allows students to explore a specific area of interest in nursing practice or healthcare delivery, applying theoretical knowledge in a practical context. Throughout the course, students gain experience in identifying research questions, conducting literature reviews, developing research proposals, and managing ethical approval processes. The course also emphasizes critical thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication of research findings. All students must meet the university’s academic progress and conduct requirements. The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) prepares graduates for further postgraduate research study, advanced clinical roles, or leadership opportunities within the healthcare sector.
