The Bachelor of Environmental Science (Wildlife and Conservation Biology) at Deakin University is a comprehensive degree requiring the successful completion of 24 credit points. This includes 18 core units focused on essential knowledge and skills in environmental science, such as biodiversity, wildlife ecology, conservation management, and fire ecology. Students must also complete three zero-credit-point compulsory modules in their first study period: Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction, and Career Tools for Employability. The remaining six credit points can be fulfilled either by selecting a minor (four credit points) alongside two elective units, or by choosing six credit points worth of open elective units. To ensure a strong academic progression, students are allowed a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and are required to complete at least 14 credit points across levels 2 and 3, including a minimum of six credit points at level 3. The course is designed to be completed over three years of full-time study, with students typically undertaking four credit points per trimester. This structure supports a balance of theoretical study and hands-on experience, including regular field trips and professional placements that are central to the course’s practical focus.
