The Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University is structured to provide a comprehensive education in business while offering flexibility to tailor the course to individual interests and career goals. To complete the degree, students must successfully pass 24 credit points. This includes one compulsory zero-credit-point unit, Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which must be completed in the first study period. The course includes 8 core units that provide a solid foundation in key business disciplines such as accounting, economics, finance, business law, and management. Students are also required to complete one major, consisting of 8 credit points, allowing them to specialise in a particular field such as marketing, human resource management, or international business. In addition to core and major units, students must complete 1 credit point from Work Integrated Learning (WIL) elective units. These are designed to give students real-world experience through internships, business simulations, or industry-linked projects. To further personalise their degree, students are able to choose 7 credit points of open electives from any undergraduate discipline, offering the chance to explore complementary areas or pursue broader interests. There are also structural requirements: at least 16 credit points must be selected from the Faculty of Business and Law, no more than 10 credit points can be at level 1 (introductory level), and a minimum of 6 credit points must be completed at level 3 (advanced level), with at least 4 of those coming from Business and Law units. Typically, full-time students enrol in 4 credit points per trimester and complete two trimesters per year. This course structure ensures that graduates not only develop a strong academic foundation but also gain industry-relevant experience and practical skills that prepare them for diverse careers in business.
