To complete the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws double degree, students must pass a total of 40 credit points. This includes the compulsory zero-credit unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which must be completed in the first study period. The degree is divided into 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Arts and 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Laws. For the Arts component, students are required to complete one major of 8 credit points, with at least 4 credit points at level 3 from the Faculty of Arts to ensure depth of study. The remaining Arts credit points can be used for the Employability sequence or additional electives, which may form a minor. The Law component includes 18 credit points of core units that provide foundational legal knowledge and skills. In addition, students must complete 1 credit point from a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) unit or a practical course elective to gain real-world legal experience, and 5 credit points from law course electives to tailor their legal studies to areas of interest. All course requirements for both the Bachelor of Arts (A300) and the Bachelor of Laws (M312) must be satisfied. Each unit is typically worth one credit point. Full-time students generally undertake four credit points per trimester across two trimesters per year, allowing them to complete the degree within a standard timeframe. This double degree equips students with a broad understanding of the humanities and social sciences alongside professional legal training, preparing graduates for diverse careers in law, government, policy, advocacy, or any field requiring strong analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills.
