The Stage 2 Diploma of Health Sciences (CRICOS Code 087942A) offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for advanced study and future careers in the health sector. To complete the program, students must undertake five core units and select three elective units. The core units provide essential knowledge across key health science areas. In Semester 1, students study Foundations for Professional Health Practice, Human Structure and Function, and Introduction to Psychology. In Semester 2, the core units include Foundations of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, which introduces students to the basics of health data analysis, and Indigenous Cultures and Health Behaviours, which explores the impact of culture on health and healthcare delivery. These units are service taught, meaning Curtin College students attend the same classes as Curtin University students and are taught by university staff, following Curtin University’s academic guidelines and standards. In addition to the core curriculum, students choose three electives to tailor their learning toward specific interests or career paths. Semester 1 elective options include Imagining Health in Social and Cultural Contexts, Food and Nutrition Principles, Fundamental Chemistry for Biosciences, and Integrated Systems, Anatomy and Physiology. In Semester 2, students can choose from a range of electives including Imagining Health, Fundamental Chemistry, Integrated Systems, Introduction to Pathophysiology, Foundations of Psychology, Brain and Behaviour, and Functional Anatomy. These electives provide students with the opportunity to explore areas such as nutrition, mental health, anatomy, and disease processes, depending on their future academic and professional goals. Overall, Stage 2 of the Diploma of Health Sciences offers a balanced combination of core knowledge and specialization, supporting student progression into a variety of Curtin University health science degrees and ultimately into health-related careers.
