Course Curriculum

Bachelor Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning at AQF level 7, while the honours component advances this learning to AQF level 8 by fostering higher-level analytical, research and professional capabilities. The Bachelor of Science (Health Sciences) (Honours) is designed to develop originality, independence of thought and advanced research skills, providing a clear pathway for students intending to progress to higher degree research such as a master’s by research or PhD. The course enables students to build on the disciplinary knowledge gained during their undergraduate studies while engaging deeply with contemporary issues and emerging developments in health-related research. Students may focus their honours studies in a range of specialised areas including health promotion, food science, nutrition, nursing, paramedicine, health safety and environment, and epidemiology, allowing them to align their research with professional interests and career aspirations. Throughout the program, students develop advanced skills in academic inquiry, critical analysis and research methodology, equipping them to design, conduct and evaluate rigorous research projects relevant to health practice and policy. A central component of the course is the completion of a supervised research project, through which students gain hands-on experience in data collection, analysis and interpretation. Students present their findings in the form of an honours dissertation, demonstrating their ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively to academic and professional audiences. By combining advanced coursework with independent research training, the BSc (Health Sciences) (Honours) enhances graduates’ employability across health, research and policy settings, while also preparing them for further academic study and leadership roles within the health sector.
