Course Curriculum

Year 1 of the honours component in Actuarial Science at Curtin University focuses on developing advanced knowledge and research skills required for professional and academic practice. Students complete Actuarial Control Cycle 1, which provides an in-depth understanding of the actuarial process, including risk assessment, financial modelling, and decision-making strategies. Predictive Analytics Principles equips students with the statistical and computational techniques necessary to analyse complex data sets and generate forecasts, preparing them for data-driven decision-making in finance, insurance, and related industries.The Actuarial Science Honours Dissertation 1 is a 50-credit project that allows students to undertake independent research under academic supervision. This component develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, enabling students to apply theoretical frameworks to real-world actuarial problems. Through the dissertation, students learn to design and conduct research, analyse results, and communicate findings effectively, ensuring readiness for professional practice or further postgraduate study.Completion of this first-year honours curriculum prepares students to progress to more advanced honours research and specialised actuarial topics in subsequent years. It combines theoretical knowledge, practical application, and research experience, aligning with the AQF level 8 learning outcomes and fostering the capabilities required for professional actuarial practice or higher research degrees.
