Course Curriculum

In the Bachelor of Health Sciences, the course structure provides a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to learning. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in health practice through core units such as Foundations for Professional Health Practice, Foundations of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, and Indigenous Cultures and Health Behaviours. Students also select from a broad range of elective options, including biology, chemistry, psychology, nutrition, exercise science, occupational therapy, and health promotion, enabling them to explore different areas of health science according to their interests.In the second year, students continue to develop core public health knowledge with units like Big Data and Health, Introduction to Health Psychology, Epidemiology, and Health Care Systems in Australia. Practical and applied learning is emphasised through units such as Promoting Mental Health and Social Inclusion and Health Promotion in Action. Additional elective options allow students to gain deeper knowledge in specialised areas including biochemistry, physiotherapy, social work, sexology, and health data governance.In the third year, students begin to focus on their chosen specialisation or Accelerated Bachelor-Master pathway. Core units such as Applied Research and Biostatistics and Foundations of Health Promotion Planning and Evaluation provide the theoretical and methodological skills needed for advanced study. Students may select from Health Data or Health Sciences specialisations, or enter pre-Master specialisations including Public Health, Health Administration, Sexology, or Occupational Health and Safety. Further elective options in areas such as applied health promotion, neuroscience, medical pathophysiology, global health, and artificial intelligence in health allow students to tailor their studies to their career goals. This structure ensures that graduates develop practical skills, analytical and research capabilities, and specialised expertise that prepare them for employment or further postgraduate study within the health sector.
