The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) at Curtin University is structured to combine foundational knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience across four years of study. In Year 1, students establish a solid base in pharmaceutical sciences, human biology, and professional health practice. Semester 1 introduces students to the foundations of pharmacy, human structure and function, and pharmacy practice, while Semester 2 focuses on biostatistics, epidemiology, indigenous health, pathophysiology, and pharmaceutical chemistry.Year 2 builds on these foundations, emphasizing pharmacology, pharmaceutics, immunology, infectious diseases, antimicrobial therapy, pharmaceutical formulation, pharmacokinetics, and integrated therapeutics. Students also continue developing practical pharmacy skills through Pharmacy Practice units, bridging theory with applied knowledge.In Year 3, the program deepens students’ expertise in integrated pharmacology, therapeutics, medicinal chemistry, clinical pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical technology, biopharmaceutical technology, and evidence-informed medicine use. Pharmacy Practice units advance, providing increasingly complex, real-world scenarios that prepare students for professional responsibilities.Year 4 focuses on specialised areas of pharmacology and therapeutics, including central nervous system pharmacology, clinical pharmacotherapeutics, and management and leadership in pharmacy. Students apply all learned skills in a comprehensive, year-long professional pharmacy placement, allowing them to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical, patient-centered experience in real healthcare settings.Throughout the program, students progressively develop advanced analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, practical expertise, and professional competencies required for registration as pharmacists, capable of contributing effectively in community and hospital pharmacies, pharmaceutical research and development, and specialised areas of practice. The course’s honours component ensures that students also gain research skills and a capacity for independent, evidence-based professional decision-making, positioning them for lifelong learning and career progression in the dynamic field of pharmacy.
