The Bachelor of Engineering course structure is designed to provide students with a strong foundational year followed by in-depth, specialised engineering training. In Year 1, all students complete the Bachelor of Engineering Pre-Major, which forms the Engineering Foundation Year. This year introduces core concepts in mathematics, science, engineering principles, and professional practice that are essential across all engineering disciplines. It also allows students to explore different fields of engineering before selecting a major, helping them make an informed choice about their future specialisation. From Year 2 onwards, students progress into a nominated engineering major, completing an integrated honours program aligned with their chosen discipline. Available majors include civil and construction engineering, chemical engineering, energy engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, environmental engineering, industrial and systems engineering, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, mechatronic engineering, mining engineering, and software systems engineering. Each major is structured to provide 500 credit points of advanced, discipline-specific study that combines theoretical knowledge with practical, industry-relevant applications. The content of Years 3 and 4 varies depending on the selected major and focuses on developing advanced technical expertise, design capability, and professional engineering skills. These later years typically include complex engineering design projects, laboratory and fieldwork, teamwork, and industry engagement, ensuring graduates are work-ready and capable of addressing real-world engineering challenges. Overall, the course structure supports a clear progression from foundational learning to specialised professional competence, preparing graduates for diverse engineering careers and accreditation as professional engineers.
