This course structure provides a comprehensive and progressive learning pathway that builds strong foundations in education theory, curriculum understanding and professional practice across three years of study. In the first year, students develop core knowledge of child development, communication, literacy, numeracy and digital learning, establishing an understanding of how children learn and how educators communicate effectively in contemporary educational contexts. Units such as English: The Early Years, The Numerate Educator and Teaching and Learning in the Digital World ensure students gain essential skills across key curriculum areas, while creative and inquiry-based units broaden perspectives on learning and engagement. In the second year, the focus shifts toward applying theory to practice, with studies in health and physical education, science inquiry, inclusion and differentiation, and professional teaching practice. These units support the development of practical skills required to respond to diverse learner needs and real-world classroom situations. Students further strengthen their expertise in literacy and numeracy through specialised units and elective choices that allow for individual interests and emerging career goals. The third year emphasises leadership, research and contextual understanding of education. Indigenous Australian Education deepens cultural awareness and understanding of Indigenous perspectives, while curriculum-focused units explore policy, culture and inquiry-based teaching across learning areas. Mentoring, coaching and tutoring enhance professional communication and leadership capabilities, and Reflection and Research in Education develops critical thinking and research skills essential for evidence-based practice. Elective options throughout the course provide flexibility, enabling students to tailor their studies to areas such as policy, secondary education contexts or broader educational leadership. Overall, this structured progression equips graduates with a broad understanding of education systems, strong analytical and communication skills, and practical knowledge applicable to a wide range of education-related roles beyond classroom teaching.
