The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) course structure is carefully designed to provide a progressive and comprehensive learning journey that integrates theory, practice and professional experience across four years of study. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in child development, communication, literacy, numeracy and digital learning. Units such as Child Development for Educators, English: The Early Years and Teaching and Learning in the Digital World introduce key concepts that underpin effective teaching practice, while creative and inquiry-based subjects encourage holistic approaches to early learning. Year 2 deepens students’ understanding of early childhood education from birth to four years, with a strong emphasis on literacies, mathematics and learning environments. A significant feature of this year is the first early childhood professional experience, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real educational settings. Students also select an elective unit, enabling them to tailor their learning to areas of interest such as inclusive education, technologies, STEM, literacy or cultural and religious education. In Semester 2, students explore humanities, science, health, and the arts within early childhood contexts, further broadening their pedagogical skills. Year 3 focuses on teaching children aged three to five and introduces Indigenous Australian Education, strengthening students’ cultural competence and understanding of First Nations perspectives. Professional experience continues to play a central role, alongside advanced studies in language, literacy and mathematics. In the final year, students develop leadership capabilities, curriculum integration skills and an understanding of social justice and diversity in early childhood education. The course culminates in a full-term professional internship, providing an immersive transition into the teaching profession. Overall, the structured progression ensures graduates are confident, reflective and classroom-ready early childhood educators.
