The Film and Screen program is delivered over three years with three trimesters each year, combining screen and media studies, creative development, production, and practical filmmaking experience. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge with units such as Critical Thinking: Screen and Media Theory (SCMASC2) and Australian Screen Cultures, alongside core creative development courses like Stories on Screen (SCMCD1) and Episodic Screenwriting (SCMEPS2). Production skills are introduced through Introduction to Production (SCMP1) and Digital Film Editing (SCMDFES), while practical filmmaking experience is gained in Video and Digital Filmmaking (SCMPR1) and Mobile Filmmaking (SCMMFMS). This year establishes essential theory and hands-on skills needed for screen media work. The second year expands on these foundations with studies in Global Screen Cultures (SCMGSC3), Screenwriting for Short Film (SCMSSFS), and Documentary Development (SCMDDV4). Production units focus on Screen Craft (SCMP3) and Soundtrack for Screen (SCMP4), with practice-based courses in Episodic Production (SCMEPR3) and Branded Content (SCMPR4). Electives offer opportunities for specialization and broadening of expertise. The third year prepares students for professional careers, emphasizing Impact, Marketing and Distribution (SCM5) and culminating in a Screen Studies and Creative Capstone Project (SCM6). Creative Development continues with Capstone Development (SCMCD5), integrating learning into a major final project. Advanced production units include Documentary Production (SCMP5) and Creative Entrepreneurship (SCMPR6), alongside Professional Inquiry (SCMPR5) and an Industry Placement (CRFIPLS), which provides practical industry experience and networking. The program offers a well-rounded education that balances theoretical understanding with extensive practical application, equipping graduates with the critical skills, creative vision, and professional connections necessary to succeed in the evolving film and screen industry.
