The Music Production course at Collarts is structured across three years, divided into three trimesters per year, and is designed to equip students with both technical and creative skills needed to succeed in today’s music industry. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational skills in recording and mixing through units like Mixing Foundations and Recording Foundations. They also begin composing and producing their own music, with a focus on sequencing, creative software practice, and developing music production techniques. Technology in performance is introduced, helping students understand how to integrate digital tools into live and recorded settings. These practical skills are supported by Creative and Industry Foundations, encouraging critical thinking and professional awareness. In the second year, students expand their capabilities through more advanced units such as Collaborative Recording and Mastering, along with specialized topics like Music for the Moving Image and Remixing & Arranging. The course also dives deeper into creative development with units like Songwriter Producer and Technology in Performance 2, encouraging students to refine their unique style and production approach. Students begin to explore content creation and sound studies, developing media skills and theoretical knowledge essential for adapting to evolving industry trends. In the final year, students focus on professional application and preparing for industry engagement. They take on Contemporary Production and Producing Styles & Genres to refine their creative direction, while the Music Production Capstone Project and Capstone Development Mentorship provide a platform to complete a major original work. The final trimester includes a unit on Creative Entrepreneurship, preparing students to launch and manage their careers.
