Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Animation is a three-year course designed to progressively develop students’ skills in animation theory, principles, and practice, while embedding strong creative foundations and preparing them for industry engagement.In the first year, students are introduced to the core elements of animation. Trimester 1 includes units such as Animation Theory, Visual Storytelling, and Drawing for Animation, alongside Creative Foundations. In Trimester 2, students study Film Animation: History and Theory, Principles of Animation, and Industry Foundations. They also gain technical experience through Motion Design. By Trimester 3, the focus shifts toward integrating conceptual and design skills with Production Design and Art Direction.The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced concepts. Trimester 1 includes Media Literacy, Acting for Animation 1, and Screenwriting for Animation. These units are designed to enhance storytelling and character development skills. In Trimester 2, students continue with Acting for Animation 2 and learn Storyboarding and Cinematography, supported by an exploration of Contemporary Art, Design, and Cultural History. Trimester 3 focuses on strengthening design skills through units like 2D Character Design and 2D Environment Design, helping students further define their artistic voice.In the third year, students prepare for professional entry into the industry. Trimester 1 features Animation Futures and Soundtrack for Screen, while students begin their Animation Capstone Development. Trimester 2 centers on completing the Animation Capstone Project and studying Creative Entrepreneurship to support independent or studio-based career paths. In Trimester 3, students personalize their learning experience through an elective and participate in either an industry placement or develop a professional portfolio.
