The Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) at Charles Sturt University is a three-year undergraduate degree that offers a comprehensive understanding of human behavior and psychological theory, preparing students for a wide range of career paths or further study in psychology. This program, accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), focuses on understanding the mind, behavior, and how individuals interact with society. Throughout the course, students explore key areas of psychology including biopsychology, personality, psychopathology, cognitive processes, developmental psychology, and social psychology. Core subjects such as Foundations of Psychology, Psychological Testing, Learning and Cognition, and Research Methods provide a strong theoretical and practical foundation. Students also study Indigenous perspectives in psychology and sociology, emphasizing cultural competence and social awareness. The course structure includes 112 credit points of core subjects and a 48-credit point minor, chosen from fields such as sociology, social welfare, justice studies, biology, or human resource management. Students may also select electives in areas like health psychology, addiction, psychology and the legal system, or stress and trauma. Those who choose sociology as a minor complete five sociology subjects in addition to core requirements and take additional electives to meet the total subject count. The course is available both on campus and online, offering flexibility to fit different student needs. On-campus students typically complete the degree over three years, while online students can spread their study over six years. The degree helps students build critical thinking, communication, and research skills, which are applicable in many settings such as community services, education, human resources, health promotion, or government. Graduates are well-prepared for roles that require psychological insight or may pursue further study to become registered psychologists. With a strong academic foundation and practical application, this course is ideal for those interested in understanding and supporting human wellbeing.
