Course Curriculum

The Bachelor of Nursing at Charles Sturt University is a well-rounded program designed to prepare students for careers as registered nurses. The full course requires the completion of 192 credit points. Students who enter the program with an approved credit package may be eligible to complete between 128 to 176 credit points, depending on their previous qualifications and experience. The course is structured into four key components: introductory subjects, foundational subjects, continuing subjects, and capstone subjects.The introductory component consists of 32 credit points and includes subjects such as Contexts of Nursing, Human Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses 1, Nursing Workplace Learning 1, and Clinical Reasoning in Nursing 1. These subjects help students develop a basic understanding of the nursing profession and essential clinical reasoning skills.The foundational component, totaling 64 credit points, builds on this knowledge with subjects like Health Challenges in Acute Care, Anatomy and Physiology 2, and additional workplace learning. Students also continue to advance their clinical reasoning skills during this stage, applying theoretical knowledge in practical healthcare environments.The continuing component includes another 64 credit points and focuses on subjects such as Indigenous Health Care, Pharmacology, Mental Health Care, and further clinical placements. These subjects are designed to deepen students’ understanding of holistic and patient-centered care, especially in diverse and complex healthcare settings.The final capstone component includes 32 credit points and prepares students for transition into professional practice. It covers complex and chronic care, final workplace learning experiences, and advanced clinical reasoning.Throughout the course, students engage in a combination of academic study, intensive schools, and workplace learning placements to ensure they are fully prepared for real-world nursing roles.
