The Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science at Charles Sturt University is structured to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in medical imaging, radiation science, and patient care, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, workplace-based learning. The program comprises 120 credit points of core subjects, covering essential areas such as human anatomy and physiology, Indigenous Australian health, professional fundamentals, introductory medical radiation science, sectional anatomy, imaging pathology, radiation biology, protection and dosimetry, pharmacology, computed tomography, non-ionising imaging techniques, general physics, physics for medical radiation science, and health psychology. These core subjects ensure that students develop the scientific, technical, and professional knowledge required to practise safely and effectively in medical radiation science. In addition to the core curriculum, students complete a 64 credit point major in one of three specialised pathways: Diagnostic Radiography, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, or Radiation Therapy. Each major allows students to focus on a specific professional field and gain in-depth knowledge and practical skills relevant to their chosen career. Students also undertake a compulsory subject aligned with their major, such as Digital Systems, Sustainability and the Global Community for Diagnostic Radiography or Nuclear Medicine, and Radiation Therapy Technology for the Radiation Therapy major.A key component of the program is the 64 credit point residency placement, which provides extensive, hands-on industry experience in real-world healthcare settings. This placement enables students to apply their knowledge, develop professional competencies, and build confidence in clinical practice. The combination of core scientific training, specialised majors, compulsory subjects, and immersive residency experiences ensures that graduates of the Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science are fully prepared to enter the workforce as competent, ethical, and highly skilled medical radiation professionals ready to contribute to the healthcare industry.
