The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Charles Sturt University is structured to provide a strong foundation in engineering principles, combined with specialised knowledge, practical experience, and professional development. The program includes 176 credit points of core subjects designed to equip students with essential skills in engineering design, materials, mechanics, computing, physics, energy systems, mathematics, programming, project management, and workplace performance. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning through subjects such as Engineering Design Challenges 1, 2, and 3, and culminates in an Engineering Capstone Thesis that integrates knowledge and skills across multiple domains. Students also complete the Engineering Residency sequence, which provides structured, real-world industry experience and professional development across three placements, preparing them for the transition to the workforce. The inclusion of First Nations Foundations: Knowing, Relating and Understanding Country ensures graduates gain cultural awareness and an understanding of Indigenous perspectives within engineering practice. In addition to the core curriculum, students complete a 64 credit point major in one of three disciplines: Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. Each major allows students to specialise in their chosen field and select two restricted electives relevant to their area of study. Civil Engineering electives include Renewable Energy Engineering, Applied Computer-Aided Engineering, Environmental Assessment and Auditing, and Spatial Modelling. Electrical Engineering electives cover Renewable Energy Engineering, Applied Photovoltaics, Wireless Communications, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Scientific Data Analysis. Mechanical Engineering electives include Renewable Energy Engineering, Applied Photovoltaics, and Applied Computer-Aided Engineering. This combination of core training, specialised majors, elective options, and workplace-focused residencies ensures graduates are equipped with technical expertise, practical experience, and professional skills, making them ready to tackle real-world engineering challenges across various industries.
