This early childhood and primary education degree is a comprehensive program totaling 296 credit points, designed to prepare students to teach and support children from birth through to the primary school years. Students must complete both the literacy and numeracy components of the LANTITE (Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education) as a requirement for course accreditation and before undertaking their final professional experience placement.The course content is divided into several key areas. The discipline content component (64 credit points) includes studies in health, creative arts, humanities, science, mathematics, literature, and First Nations knowledge. This component helps future educators develop deep subject knowledge across all key learning areas.The education and curriculum content (152 credit points) provides extensive training in pedagogy, curriculum development, and teaching strategies. Subjects in this area focus on inclusive education, leadership, digital technology in education, diverse learner needs, and teaching methodologies for core subjects such as English, mathematics, science, and the arts. Several subjects also emphasize the importance of Indigenous education and social justice.Work Integrated Learning (72 credit points) is a vital part of the degree. Students participate in professional experience placements across a variety of early childhood and primary settings, starting from birth to two years and progressing to primary school contexts. These placements provide valuable real-world teaching practice and help bridge theory and classroom application.Finally, students choose one restricted elective, allowing them to focus on either highly effective teaching in STEM or in primary English. The degree is designed to ensure graduates are confident, capable, and classroom-ready educators who can make a lasting impact on children’s learning and development.
