Course Curriculum

The essential set of core subjects (168 credit points) provides a comprehensive foundation across the scientific, technical, economic, and social dimensions of modern agriculture. Students develop a strong understanding of agricultural systems through subjects such as Foundations of Agriculture, Biology in Agriculture, Chemical Fundamentals, Introduction to Microbiology, and Soil Science, which build essential scientific knowledge underpinning plant, animal, and soil production. Production-focused subjects, including Plant Production Systems, Livestock Production Systems, Livestock Management, Agricultural Biotechnology, and Precision Agriculture and Data Handling, equip students with practical and innovative approaches to managing contemporary farming systems. Business and management capabilities are developed through Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Finance and Business Management, and Production Analysis and Optimisation, enabling graduates to make informed decisions in commercial agricultural environments. Subjects such as Extension and Food Environment and Culture strengthen communication skills and understanding of the broader food system, while Contemporary Issues in Agriculture encourages critical engagement with emerging challenges facing the industry. First Nations Foundations: Knowing, Relating and Understanding Country provides cultural awareness and an appreciation of Indigenous knowledge systems in land and resource management. Together, these core subjects ensure graduates gain a balanced education that integrates science, technology, sustainability, and agribusiness, preparing them for diverse roles across agricultural production, agribusiness, and related industries.
