The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a comprehensive two-year postgraduate program designed to prepare graduates for professional teaching careers in secondary education. Students have the flexibility to study online as external students, on campus as internal students, or through a combination of both. All learning materials are provided online, and students are encouraged to participate in interactive discussions and activities to build professional dialogue and teaching networks. Before graduating, all students must pass the ACER Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE), as required by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). The test ensures that graduates meet national standards for literacy and numeracy proficiency, with testing costs covered by the student. Candidates are also advised to review the prerequisite and assumed knowledge requirements before enrolling in the program. To complete the degree, students must successfully earn a total of 160 credit points. This includes 120 credit points from core units and 40 credit points from specialist elective units. Core units cover essential areas of teacher education such as inclusive education, classroom management, educational research, Indigenous learning integration, learner development, and digital technologies in education. Students will also undertake 60 days of professional experience through two supervised placements: EPE529 (Secondary Professional Experience 1) and EPE635 (Professional Experience: Assessment for Graduate Teachers). For the specialist electives, students choose curriculum areas aligned with their prior qualifications and teaching interests. Options include Business Enterprises, English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities, Languages Other Than English, Mathematics, Music, Science, Technologies, and Visual Arts. Students entering with two teaching areas complete 20 credit points from each discipline, while those entering with one teaching area complete 20 credit points from that discipline and two additional professional studies units—TES502 (Language, Meaning and Learning) and EMG501 (Contemporary Issues in Education).
