The Master of Public Health requires the completion of 120 credit points made up of core units and specialist electives, allowing students to tailor their learning toward either professional practice or research. The course begins with 50 credit points of compulsory core units that build a foundation in key areas of public health. These include Indigenous Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy, Public Health, and Qualitative Research. Together, these units develop essential skills in understanding population health trends, interpreting evidence, addressing health inequities, and applying culturally informed approaches to public health practice. Students then complete 70 credit points of specialist electives through one of two structured pathways. In the Professional Practice option, students select 70 credit points of electives drawn from the Public Health Practice, Indigenous Health, or Global Health streams, offering flexibility to deepen expertise in areas such as research design, sexual and reproductive health, health systems evaluation, clinical trials, chronic disease control, global health challenges, and emergency and disaster management. This pathway is suited to those seeking to strengthen professional skills for leadership roles in public health services, policy, program delivery, or health promotion. The second pathway, the Research Project option, combines 30 credit points of specialist electives with a substantial 40-credit-point supervised research project. Students can choose to complete the project full-time in one unit or part-time across two units. This pathway is ideal for those wishing to pursue academic research, contribute to evidence-based public health initiatives, or prepare for higher-degree research. Across both pathways, the course structure supports advanced analytical skills, critical thinking, and applied problem-solving to address complex health and social issues. Upon completing the 120-credit-point requirement, graduates are equipped with the knowledge and competencies needed to succeed in public health roles locally, nationally, and internationally.
