The Master of Occupational Therapy requires the successful completion of 160 credit points, delivered through a series of 13 core units that provide the essential theoretical and practical foundation for professional practice. Each unit is designed to build the student’s competence in key areas of occupational therapy, integrating biomedical sciences, social health perspectives, and applied clinical skills. Foundational knowledge begins with Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, which develop a strong understanding of the human body and its functions. Students also explore health in diverse contexts through the unit Perspectives of First Nations Health, promoting culturally responsive and inclusive practice. The course includes the Research Skills for Health Professionals unit, ensuring that graduates can engage in evidence-based practice and contribute to ongoing research within the discipline.Professional practice and clinical reasoning skills are cultivated through a sequence of occupational therapy–specific units, including Foundations in Occupational Therapy Profession and Practice, Enabling Occupational Abilities and Participation, and Humans as Occupational Beings. Students will also develop specialised expertise in working with various populations through Approaches in Occupational Therapy units focused on mental health, children and youth, and adults and older adults. These units equip graduates to assess and support clients across the lifespan, addressing physical, psychological, and social barriers to participation in everyday activities.Practical experience forms a major component of the program through progressive placement units—Occupational Therapy Practice 1, 2, and 3—culminating in a total of 1,000 hours of supervised clinical practice. These placements allow students to apply classroom learning in real-world health and community settings under professional supervision. Upon completion of all 160 credit points, graduates will possess the academic and practical competencies required to register and practise as professional occupational therapists in Australia and beyond.
