The Master of Nursing Practice (Pre-Registration) is a comprehensive and professionally accredited program designed to prepare students for registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. This 160-credit point course develops advanced clinical, theoretical, and research skills essential for nursing practice across diverse healthcare settings. Throughout the program, students gain in-depth knowledge of the human body, nursing care, pharmacology, research, leadership, and culturally safe health practices. Core units such as Australian First Nations People's Health and Social Justice, Nursing and the Australian Health System, and Research for Healthcare Practice focus on building cultural awareness, evidence-based practice, and ethical decision-making. Clinical and theoretical units like The Body, Its Function, Dysfunction and Nursing Care 1 and 2, Pharmacology, and Acute Clinical Practice 1 and 2 equip students with the expertise to deliver safe and effective patient care. The program also includes specialised and advanced clinical units such as Mental Health, Specialist Nursing, Leadership in Clinical Practice, and High Acuity Clinical Practice, which are available from 2027. In addition, students complete Research Skills for Health Professionals and Transit to Safe Independent Practice to support their transition into the professional nursing workforce. Practical experience forms a critical component of the course, with simulation blocks and supervised clinical placements providing opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world healthcare environments. Students are expected to undertake at least 800 hours of supervised placement, ensuring competence in various clinical settings. Offered in both online and on-campus modes, the course provides flexibility while maintaining rigorous academic and professional standards. Graduates of this program are equipped with the clinical reasoning, leadership, and research skills necessary to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and contribute to Australia’s evolving healthcare system.
