The Master of Information Technology (Cyber Security) at CDU is a comprehensive 160-credit point postgraduate program designed to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge in cyber security, combining theoretical understanding with practical application. The program requires the completion of 140 credit points of core units, which cover foundational and advanced topics essential for modern cyber security practice. Core units include Software Now, Foundations of Data Science, and Database Concepts, which provide students with essential technical knowledge and analytical skills. Professional and industry-focused units such as Professional Issues in Technology, IT Service Management, and Risk and Reliability Management prepare students to address the ethical, strategic, and operational aspects of cyber security. Specialized technical units, including Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Algorithms, Asset Security and Risk Management, Communications and Network Security Engineering, Identity Access Management and Security Operations, and Security Assessment in Software Development, develop students’ capability to design, implement, and manage secure IT systems in real-world contexts. The program also includes Cyber Security Practice, a 20-credit point intensive unit that provides applied, hands-on experience in contemporary cyber security challenges. In addition to the core units, students complete one 20-credit point specialist elective, which may be either Professional Experience or an IT Thesis. This elective allows students to tailor their study to their career goals, either through industry engagement or independent research, reinforcing practical skills or exploring innovative cyber security solutions in depth. Graduates of the program will be well-prepared to enter professional roles such as cyber security analysts, IT security consultants, penetration testers, and network security engineers, with the capability to protect digital infrastructures, manage risks, and respond to emerging cyber threats effectively.
