The Master of Health Research provides a comprehensive and structured pathway for students to develop advanced research skills and knowledge in health-related disciplines. The program comprises a total of 120 credit points and is designed to equip candidates with the ability to design, conduct, and present a substantial research-based project under the guidance of an experienced supervisor. It is delivered externally online, with selected units also available for on-campus study, providing flexibility for students balancing work and personal commitments. The course begins with five compulsory core units (50 credit points) that build essential research foundations. These include Research Design, Research Ethics and Impact, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Qualitative Research. Together, these units provide a strong grounding in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, ethical research practices, and data interpretation—key competencies for effective health research.Students then complete 30 credit points of specialist elective units drawn from either the Health Research or Public Health streams. The Health Research stream offers subjects such as Clinical Trials, Indigenous Health Research, and the Epidemiology and Control of Communicable Diseases, allowing students to focus on applied and experimental research. Alternatively, the Public Health stream covers areas like Health Promotion, Health Systems Planning, Health Policy, and Global Health, providing a broader population-based perspective on health management and improvement. The final component of the degree is a substantial research project worth 40 credit points, undertaken either full-time or part-time. This capstone experience enables students to apply their theoretical learning to a focused area of inquiry, producing an independent piece of research that demonstrates their ability to contribute to the health research field.Overall, the Master of Health Research offers a rigorous and flexible program designed to prepare graduates for research, academic, or professional roles in public health, policy development, and evidence-based practice, as well as further doctoral study.
