The four core units—Emergency and Disaster Management in Context, Interdisciplinary Aspects of Emergency and Disaster Management, Leadership in Emergency and Disaster Management, and Cultural, Social and Psychological Aspects of Emergency and Disaster Management—build a strong foundation in the principles, leadership strategies, and social dimensions of managing emergencies and disasters.Students then customize their learning through specialist elective units drawn from a broad range of disciplines aligned with their career goals or research interests. Elective areas include Research Methodology, Humanitarian Practice, Global Challenges and Social Action, Indigenous-Informed Practices, Trauma and Mental Health, Health Emergencies and Response, Environmental Hazards and Management, Advanced Hazard Analysis, Organisational Leadership and Strategic Management, Project and Risk Management, and Public Policy and Evaluation. This interdisciplinary flexibility allows students to gain specialized expertise relevant to sectors such as public health, community development, government policy, environmental management, and humanitarian response. The program’s structure supports both professional advancement and academic progression, serving as a pathway to the Master of Emergency and Disaster Management or related postgraduate qualifications.
