The Diploma of Network Engineering requires students to complete a total of 80 credit points, consisting of common units, core units, and one elective. Each unit is valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise specified. The program structure includes two common units worth 20 credit points, which focus on developing communication, cultural understanding, and innovation skills. All students must complete Cultural Capabilities, along with either Design and Innovation: Communicating Technology or Language, Literacy and Sustainability. These units help students strengthen their professional and academic foundations. The five core units, totalling 50 credit points, form the technical backbone of the diploma and include Software Now, Foundations of Data Science, Computing Fundamentals, Operating Systems and Applications, and Network Engineering Applications. Together, these subjects provide essential knowledge in computer systems, data handling, and network management, ensuring students build a well-rounded understanding of modern IT and communication networks.Students must also complete one elective unit worth 10 credit points, chosen from undergraduate units offered by the university, allowing them to tailor their learning to personal interests or professional goals. The course follows the Higher Education Course Rules outlined in the university’s policy, ensuring academic quality and consistency. Over time, the program has undergone several updates to remain current with industry standards and emerging technologies. For instance, units such as Foundations of Data Science and Network Engineering Applications replaced earlier versions to reflect advances in computing and networking. These changes ensure that students acquire relevant, up-to-date skills that align with employer expectations. Upon completion, graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in network support and IT systems or may choose to continue their studies in related fields such as the Bachelor of Information Technology or Bachelor of Software Engineering Honours.
