The Diploma of Engineering requires the successful completion of 80 credit points, consisting of seven core units and one elective. Each unit is valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise specified. The core units provide a strong foundation in essential engineering knowledge and skills, combining theoretical learning with practical applications. Students complete subjects in areas such as mathematics, physics, statics, and the Internet of Things, along with units designed to enhance innovation, communication, and cultural understanding. The compulsory core units include Cultural Capabilities, Design and Innovation: Communicating Technology, Statics, Internet of Things, Mathematics 1A, Concepts of Mathematics, and Concepts of Physics. In addition to these, students must complete one general elective worth 10 credit points, which can be chosen from a range of undergraduate units offered by the university to suit individual interests or career goals. The course follows the Higher Education Course Rules as outlined in the university’s Units and Courses Policy. Recent updates to the program, introduced in 2026, increased the number of core units from 50 to 70 credit points, reflecting the inclusion of additional learning areas to strengthen students’ foundational skills. These adjustments ensure the program remains aligned with the latest academic and industry standards, providing graduates with relevant and up-to-date knowledge. The Diploma of Engineering serves as both a standalone qualification and a pathway to further studies, enabling students to progress into higher-level programs such as the Associate Degree in Engineering, the Bachelor of Engineering Science, or the Bachelor of Engineering Honours. Through this structured and comprehensive program, students gain the essential preparation needed for either entry-level roles in engineering or continued advancement in their academic and professional engineering careers.
