Course Curriculum

Discover how each program is uniquely designed to inspire learning

The Diploma of Arts requires students to complete 80 credit points, providing a solid foundation in arts, humanities, and cultural studies. The course structure includes core units, specialist electives, and general electives, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals.Candidates must complete two compulsory core units totalling 20 credit points, which include IAS101 Indigenous Australia and CRA101 The Creative North. These units introduce students to key cultural, social, and creative concepts that form the basis of further study in the arts. In addition, students must complete 20 credit points of specialist electives chosen from a diverse range of subjects. These electives cover areas such as languages (including Chinese, Greek, Indonesian, and Yolngu), creative arts, communication, marketing, linguistics, and cultural studies. This flexibility allows students to explore interdisciplinary themes and gain valuable insights into different cultural and professional contexts. Students are also required to complete 40 credit points of general electives, which may be selected from any undergraduate units offered by the university. This component of the program enables students to broaden their academic experience and pursue subjects that complement their chosen areas of interest. The Diploma of Arts promotes critical thinking, cultural awareness, and creative problem-solving skills that prepare students for both further study and professional opportunities. The program is designed with accessibility and exploration in mind, making it ideal for students who wish to experience university-level learning without committing immediately to a bachelor’s degree. Upon completion, graduates will have developed a strong academic foundation, interdisciplinary understanding, and transferable skills applicable to a wide range of fields, including education, communication, cultural engagement, and creative industries.
