The Bachelor of Social Work requires students to complete 320 credit points, consisting of 26 core units and 2 elective units. Each unit is typically worth 10 credit points unless otherwise specified. The core units, which total 300 credit points, provide a comprehensive foundation in social work theory, practice, and ethics. Students will study key areas such as human development, psychology, communication, social justice, Indigenous perspectives, global sociology, and community engagement. The program is structured to equip students with the knowledge, practical skills, and ethical understanding required for professional social work practice in a range of settings. The course integrates both academic learning and practical experience through compulsory on-campus intensive blocks and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements. Students are required to attend 5-day intensive sessions in several core practice units, such as Social Work Skills A, Social Work Skills B, Social Work Theory and Practice, and Integrated Methods in Social Work. These intensives provide hands-on skill development and prepare students for professional placements. Two major field education units, Field Education A and Field Education B, each worth 30 credit points, enable students to gain substantial supervised workplace experience, applying theory to real-world social work contexts. In addition to the core units, students must complete 20 credit points of elective units, which can be selected from any undergraduate units offered by the university. This allows students to explore areas of personal or professional interest, enhancing their skill set and career flexibility.Course rules specify that a maximum of 120 credit points may be taken from 100-level units and a minimum of 80 credit points must be from 300-level units or above. This ensures both foundational knowledge and advanced professional capability. Overall, the Bachelor of Social Work prepares graduates for ethical, reflective, and effective practice in community services, government agencies, health care, and other social support sectors.
