The Bachelor of Public Health requires students to complete 240 credit points, consisting of 22 core units and two specialist elective units. Each unit is typically worth 10 credit points unless otherwise specified. The core units, which total 220 credit points, provide comprehensive knowledge across key areas such as anatomy, physiology, ethics, health promotion, epidemiology, chronic disease management, and mental health. Students also study Australia’s healthcare system, Indigenous health perspectives, and social determinants of health. Advanced topics include project management, social research methods, and global and environmental health, preparing students to work in diverse public health settings. The program emphasizes community engagement through Work Integrated Learning, with students required to participate in placements organized by the university’s placement office.Specialist electives allow students to tailor their learning by exploring areas such as psychology, health informatics, Indigenous community work, nutrition, and community engagement. The degree also includes two community practicum units that focus on applying theoretical knowledge in real-world health projects.Course rules stipulate that a maximum of 100 credit points can be taken from 100-level units and at least 60 credit points must come from 300-level units or above. Transitional arrangements are in place for course updates, such as the replacement of Anatomy and Physiology units (SBI171 and SBI172) with new units (SBI161 and SBI162) from 2025. Similarly, earlier units like PSY140, HSC210, and HSC230 have been updated or replaced to maintain curriculum relevance.Overall, this course provides a structured and practical pathway for students aiming to pursue a career in public health, combining strong foundational knowledge, hands-on community experience, and opportunities for specialization to address evolving health challenges at local, national, and global levels.
