The Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) program is a research-focused course designed to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills in psychology. Half of the Honours program, equivalent to 50 percent, is dedicated to a research project that allows students to gain hands-on experience in designing, conducting, analysing, and communicating psychological research. Under the guidance of experienced academic supervisors, students may choose to undertake an independent scientific study or contribute to an existing research project. During the first semester, students prepare and present a detailed research proposal outlining their study design, objectives, and methods. In the second semester, they conduct the research, analyse the data, and present their findings in the format of a scientific journal article. The program concludes with students presenting their research at the Honours Research Conference, with some projects later published in academic journals. The program offers flexibility in study options, allowing students to complete it in one year full-time or two years part-time. To graduate, candidates must complete 80 credit points through six core units that integrate theory, research, and applied practice in psychology. These units include PSY414 Psychological Assessment, which focuses on psychometric theory and assessment techniques; PSY415 Psychological Interventions, which explores evidence-based therapeutic and behavioural methods; PSY416 Ethics and Professional Issues, which examines professional standards and ethical responsibilities; and PSY417 Research Methods and Practice, which develops advanced research and analytical skills. Additionally, PSY793 Honours Thesis and PSY794 Honours Research Project, each worth 20 credit points, focus on planning, conducting, and reporting original research. This Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited Honours program strengthens both research and professional competencies, providing a strong foundation for postgraduate study, clinical training, or research-oriented careers in psychology.
