The Bachelor of Nursing requires the successful completion of 240 credit points, comprising 23 core units and one specialist elective. Each unit is valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise stated. The program structure ensures students develop a strong foundation in nursing theory, clinical practice, research, and leadership. Core units totaling 230 credit points include key areas such as Perspectives of First Nations Health, Fundamentals of Primary Health Care, Mental Health Nursing, Paediatric Nursing Care, and Leadership for Nursing Practice. Foundational biomedical sciences, including Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Pathophysiology for Healthcare, and Pharmacology for Clinical Practice, provide the essential knowledge to support evidence-based clinical decision-making. Practical learning is an integral component of the course, with six Professional Experience Placement units (NUR134, NUR257, NUR260, NUR370, NUR371, and NUR420) embedded throughout the degree. These placements give students real-world clinical experience in diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, community services, and aged care facilities. Simulation-based learning is also emphasised, with several units (NUR138, NUR253, and NUR360) incorporating four-day on-campus simulation blocks designed to prepare students for professional placements. In addition to the core units, students must complete one specialist elective worth 10 credit points, choosing from Nursing Practice in Higher Acuity Settings, Extended Care Settings, Primary Health Care Settings, or a Global Experience Placement. This elective allows students to tailor their study to an area of personal or professional interest. The course ensures a balanced academic and practical focus, with a maximum of 100 credit points at the 100 level and at least 60 credit points at the 300 level or above. This structured progression helps students build advanced clinical competence, leadership ability, and professional readiness to transition smoothly into the nursing workforce as registered nurses upon graduation.
